Lost Memories -Chapter 5

Xephos POV

I couldn’t believe it; I had my best friend again. I smiled slightly as Lalna walked up and patted Honeydew’s shoulder.

“Welcome back Honeydew. Also sorry but we need to get straight back to work. We need to sort out the clone situation we have to make sure we don’t lose you again and the big question we need to figure out is who took you out of sleep.” I nodded and smiled to Lalna before noticing a pink in Honeydew’s cheeks. “Well first will be cloning, and I’ve been working on a new system so that you won’t be frozen again. Ok so the plan is to physically clone you then perform a manual memory transfer” I saw Honeydew try to wrap what he had said around his head before opening his mouth.

“Is it going to hurt?” He asked in the softest voice I’d ever heard him speak in. I knew I looked very worried as he smiled and gave a horse laugh, “Don’t worry I haven’t been able to talk in months. I’m just getting my voice back”

“To answer your question no it shouldn’t hurt you. Will take a while but shouldn’t hurt.” Lalna stated and smiled at us or was it me? I tried to not think about it, we had to focus on getting to Lalna’s lab. I scouted a head as Lalna and Honeydew walked behind me. Once we made it in Lalna ran to a giant computer screen on one side of the room. I noticed Honeydew had caught up to walk beside me when I heard I sound coming up behind us. On instincts I grabbed Honeydew shielding him as an explosion went off behind us. I yelled in pain as I felt Honeydew roll me off of him so I was lying on my stomach.

“What happened?” I heard Lalna yell and saw his feet run to be next to me.

“An explosion! Creeper probably, Xephos was just trying to protect me” I heard Honeydew say in a rush and felt his hand on my shoulder. He helped me to sit up and I winced feeling the burns along my back.

“Lewis, Lewis are you ok?” I looked up seeing Lalna now kneeling beside me. I must have looked terrible for him of all people to be using my first name.

“Yeah Duncan I’m ok. Nothing I can’t deal with.” I said smiling to him then to Honeydew who was now coming to be next to me. I heard Lalna sigh slightly.

“Lew...I mean Xeph something’s not right. That’s the third time this week someone’s been blown up. I thought we made it so those bastards couldn’t spawn in here.”

“Something tells me whoever took Simon doesn’t want him to remember who it was.” I said as Honeydew looked over my back.

“This is bad Lewis. I need you to take off your shirt so we can treat it.” Lalna moved to be next to him and I assumed it was for him to look me over.

“Simon’s right Xeph. Let m...me h...help” I nodded lifting my arms painfully ignore his
stuttering.

Honeydew POV

I blushed watching Lalna take Xephos’s shirt off. I thought to how he had called me Simon a few times. I liked hearing him say my first name over the official name we always used. Lalna had been the one to come up with the idea of using our surnames as our official names and only using our first names in case of emergency or to someone special. To hear my name was a treat especially from Xephos.

“Simon I’m going to get something to help him. Look after him and yourself” Lalna said before rushing back out of his lab. I looked after him before turning my attention back to Xephos.

“Simon, are you ok? You’ve been quiet since I started using your personal name.” I gulped slightly not wanting to give anything away of what I was thinking.

“Yeah I’m ok. I’m just worried about you of course. You defended me but Lewis…you and Lalna sounded like this had happened before”

“Well you were around when we were having problems. A lot of stable experiments all of the sudden went horribly wrong. We almost lost Duncan a week ago. A bomb went off and it was supposed to be completely disabled.”

“So you think whoever took me is doing this?” I asked as Xeph motioned me to come closer. He nodded and I sat next to him. I flinched as he laid his head on my shoulder. “Le…Le...Lewis? Wha…what are y...ou doing?”

“Sorry Simon but I don’t feel too good. I just need to prop up against something or someone.” I turned a deep red and hoped he hadn’t noticed.

Xephos POV

I smiled relaxing into him. For so long I thought I had lost him but here he was. I glanced up seeing his cheeks. He always got nervous with things like this but I just needed to relax until Duncan got back. My back stung painfully and I winced feeling a breeze hit the burns.

“Lewis are you ok?” He asked as I let out a small whimper. I nodded relaxing ignoring the pain. “Lewis…my memories have been coming back a lot recently. Before I forget what I was thinking about when Lalna gets back I want to talk to you.” I looked up at him. He was looking down at the ground. His blush was gone but started to return as the door opened.

“Wow I really can’t leave you two alone anymore, can I?” I heard Lalna’s voice.  At first it sounded as though he was joking but towards the end I caught a hint of anger. Honeydew jumped to his feet at them voice causing me to fall to the ground.

“Oh no Lewis” I heard feeling hands on my shoulder now my head hurting just as much as my back. “Lewis please relax I’m going to apply the burn cream while you’re in this position to make it easier on you. Before I could protest the hands had moved and my back stung worse than before feeling the burn cream. I screamed in pain feeling it along with the hands that were rubbing the cream in.

“God damn Duncan that stings like hell” I screamed at the man.

“Bite your teeth then! It’ll be over soon Lewis” I heard him say. I felt Honeydew’s hand
take my own but I didn’t really notice it.

“I’m ok Simon. You heard him it’ll be done soon” I said before gritting my teeth as another wave of pain hit me. It soon subsided and I was helped to a sitting position. Lalna had given Honeydew the job of bandaging me up while he got everything set up. I looked towards Lalna before looking down at the ground. I was technically alone with Honeydew once again.

“Simon… with what you were saying earlier. What did you want to talk about?” The dwarf’s cheeks started darkening once again.

“Well I wanted to tell you the truth finally. See I lo…” he paused and I could hear him gulp “lo…” he stopped before tying off my bandages. “I can’t say it. All this time and I still can’t say it, especially in front of Lalna. He’ll either be furious or make fun of me for it.” He stated simply looking down at the floor again.  I sighed before seeing Lalna walk up to us.

“We’re all set to go. You guys ready?” Honeydew stood up before helping me to my feet and we headed to the machine. “We’re ready to go.  Honeydew step inside and put on the breathing mask. I promise you’ll come back out exactly the same only a little wet” Honeydew nodded stepping inside doing as he had said. After putting the mask on Lalna went up to the big computer attached to the set up and pressed a button. Honeydew’s capsule and the empty one adjacent started filling with water. He sighed with relief and I went over to a spare chair knowing this would take a while.
